Make your Colors SING: an exploration of color and abstraction in painting

(double click on any image to create a slideshow and see them all bigger and more clearly. Just examples of some of the kind of work we might do.)

Tuesdays at the Tannery. 1 – 4pm  from January 22- February 26

Develop your creative voice through colour and abstraction.

Expand, intensify and enliven your use of colour.
Abstract from nature with your personal language of brushstrokes and marks and create your unique palette.Combining theory and practice,  for the first two or three weeks, we’ll explore hue, saturation, tone, and temperature through a series of guided experiments and small paintings in the water-based medium of your choice. (I will usually demo in acrylic or watercolor.)

After that, you will work more independently, with my help and guidance,  on the  subjects of your choice, probably working from your own photographs and drawings. We will interpret these through color, tone, shape and space to step into abstraction with a focus on gorgeous colour!

Special topics will include the colours of shadow, the colours of white, using complementary colours for bright impact and for mixing nuanced neutrals, choosing backgrounds, working wet-in-wet, glazing, and lots more.

I will provide basic materials on the first day,  but I would like you all to also bring the medium of your choice, probably Watercolours or acrylic, as well as your brushes and appropriate paper. A pad of  9″ x12″, 140lb watercolour or acrylic paper would be perfect.

You’ll be sent a more extensive materials list and more info when you enroll.
